With hundreds of thousands of service members stationed overseas, it has never been more important to recognize the daily sacrifices made by active duty, Guard, and Reserve military families. Every November, the President signs a proclamation declaring November National Veterans & Military Families Month.
When are you considered a veteran of the military?
When a person first enters the military, they are not considered veterans. A person is considered to be a veteran if they have ″served in the active military, naval or air service and who was dismissed or released under conditions other than honorable″ (Title 38, Code of Federal Regulations). This definition applies to those who were dishonorably discharged.
